Private Tour of Glastonbury Abbey, Wells Cathedral and Cheddar Gorge with Chauffeurs UK
Glastonbury Abbey is set in 37 acres of tranquil parkland in the centre of the ancient market town of Glastonbury. It was the first Christian sanctuary in Great Britain and is believed to have been visited by Joseph of Arimathea and Saints David & Patrick. Many believe the Holy Thorn tree that can be seen in the grounds originated from Joseph of Arimathea's staff and legend has it that King Arthur was buried in the Abbey beside Queen Guinevere. The dramatic and evocative Glastonbury Tor dominates the surrounding countryside and offers spectacular views over the counties of Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire. At the summit of this very steep hill an excavation has revealed the plans of two superimposed churches of St Michael, of which only the 15th-century tower remains. Wells is an unspoilt market town of great charm, located in rolling countryside, at the foot of the Mendip Hills. Steeped in history, it is England's smallest city with much of its medieval character remaining intact. Visit the beautiful Wells Cathedral with its still-working medieval clock and impressive statuary, said to be the finest in Europe. Also visit the moated Bishop's Palace and see the oldest medieval street in Europe. Cheddar Gorge is place of rugged beauty; a limestone ravine cutting through the Mendip Plateau up to 500 feet deep. The Cheddar Caves were inhabited up to 40,000 years ago and are famous for their spectacular stalactite and stalagmite decorations.Prices per vehicle, not per person
